Lithium 32650 Battery

Lithium 32650 battery is a high-capacity cylindrical battery featuring nominal voltage between 3.2 and 3.7 volts, and a nominal capacity of 5000-6500 mAh, although some manufacturers claim capacities up to 8500 mAh for some of their models.

Lithium 32650 batteries are used in some high-output flashlights, electric scooters, bikes, and other electric vehicles, for creating ultra-light high-capacity and high-voltage battery packs, for backup applications, and similar.

Lithium 32650 Batteries Features and Specifications

Lithium 32650 batteries feature physical dimensions of 32 x 67.7 mm (~1.2598 x 2.6653 inches), while nominal voltage, capacity, and other features depend on the exact chemistry type.

Lithium Iron Phosphorous (LiFePO4) 32650 batteries feature a nominal voltage of 3.2 volts and a nominal capacity of 5000-6500 mAh (5-6.5 Ah).

Although LiFePO4 lithium chemistry is the safest rechargeable lithium battery chemistry, even these batteries should have a built-in Battery Management System (BMS) that protects the battery from undesirable events like overcharge, over-discharge, low/high temperature, short circuit, and similar, or they must be a part of a larger battery pack that features BMS system that protects and equalize the individual batteries.

Also, LiFePO4 chemistry is low-drain chemistry with the recommended maximum continuous discharging current usually in the 1-2C range and with the maximum continuous charging current of 0.5-1.0C.

Although this sounds low, keep in mind that these batteries are commonly used for LED flashlights and electric vehicles.

For example:

- LED flashlight with 2 (two) 32650 batteries connected in series (2S1P) have a 6.4V 5-6.5Ah battery pack which is able to provide at least 30W for at least one hour - and that is a lot of light!

- an electric bike with 45 (forty-five) 32650 batteries connected in 15S3P has a 48V 15-19.5Ah battery which is able to provide at least 720W for one hour continuously!

When charged properly, using ONLY the battery chargers intended for such batteries, LiFePO4 batteries may last up to 2000-3000 charging/discharging cycles!

Lithium-Ion 32650 batteries feature a nominal voltage of 3.7 volts (rarely 3.6 volts) and a nominal capacity of 5000-6500 mAh (5-6.5 Ah).

Lithium-ion 32650 batteries must have a built-in Battery Management System that protects the battery from unwanted events or they must be a part of a larger battery pack that features a BMS system that protects and equalize the individual batteries.

Lithium-ion 32650 batteries are commonly able to withstand 300-500 charging/discharging cycles but are able to provide much stronger currents, up to or even more than 20-30C.

Lithium-ion 32650 batteries also must be recharged using dedicated lithium-ion battery chargers or they may overcharge, overheat, catch fire or even explode.

 32650 batteries can have flat-top or button-top positive battery terminal, while the negative side is classic flat-bottom.

32650 Battery vs 18650 Battery

32650 and 18650 batteries are built using the same lithium chemistries, have almost the same height (65.2 vs 67.7 mm - may vary slightly), but the 32650 battery features a larger diameter (32 mm vs 18 mm) and hence have a larger capacity.

18650 battery is a much more popular battery and easier to find.

Thus, some manufacturers offer their 32650 devices (LED flashlights, for example) with the battery holder, allowing the user to use a single 18650 battery instead of a single 32650 battery.

32600 vs 32650 vs 32700 Batteries

32600, 32650, and 32700 batteries are large rechargeable lithium batteries that are built using the same rechargeable lithium battery chemistries and have the same diameter. But, they differ in height:

- 32600 battery: 32 x 60 mm,

- 32650 battery: 32 x 67.7 mm

- 32700 battery: 32 x 70 mm.

Battery compartments intended for 32650 batteries sometimes may accept properly 32600 batteries - 32600 battery is shorter and it can fit easily into the 32650 battery compartment, but the issue is with contacts, which may not set properly on the 32600 battery.

On the other hand 32700 battery is only 2.3 mm taller than the 32650 battery and in most cases, it can easily properly fit into the battery compartment intended for the 32650 battery.

In fact, many brands label their batteries as 32700 batteries and advertise them as both "32650" and "32700" batteries.

32650 vs 3xAA Batteries

When three AA batteries are placed side-by-side, they may fit a cylinder ~32mm in diameter.

Some manufacturers of 32650 devices, LED flashlights mostly, deliver their devices with the battery holder that allows the user to use either a single 32650 battery or three AA batteries instead of the single 32650 battery.

Although such a battery holder provides freedom for users when purchasing new batteries (and AA batteries are very popular batteries available everywhere), one must be aware that three AA batteries don't last as long as a single 32650 battery.


32650 mLong Story Short: 32650 batteries are able to store and release plenty of energy and are used in devices that require more power than the 18650 and similar batteries can provide.

In order to be safe, rechargeable lithium batteries must be recharged using dedicated lithium battery chargers and they must have a built-in Battery Management System, without which they can easily overcharge, overheat, catch fire or even explode.
